We’ll be having a presentation by Stuart Ball, entitled ‘If You Fail To Plan, You Plan To Fail – Connecting Business Planning & Execution, To Create Sustainable Growth’.
A discussion about the need for planning and figuring our where you business is heading, before you jump into execution of ideas.
Many businesses especially those in years 1, or 2, will act first and think later. Many entrepreneurs will argue that doing something, learning by the experience and failing fast if you are going to fail is the right approach. I spend time talking about the the alternative approach; that is thinking about what we are going to do and why? Validating it will deliver the right results, and then executing the plan. Delivering the key benefit of avoiding investment until you know you will win…
Let’s use this analogy of a holiday. You probably decide where are you are going to go or at least the type of holiday, before you consider booking flights or accommodation. Business is no different, yet all to often we see people running off to execution before they develop a plan and end up wasting money because the plan the was no good.
In this introduction I will talk about the benefits of stopping and thinking every now and again and evaluate where you business is going, and why? And some very simple sounding questions can challenge what you and why you are doing things
- What are the you doing that you should stop, or do more of?
- Are you are building a business for the future, or maintaining the business you had yesterday?

I use this approach with Start-Ups, and businesses in year 1, through to mature business that have been trading successfully for many years. Types of individuals to benefit are those who manage or own a business, or have a senior position in an organisation that can drive change.
What will attendees learn?
Attendees will take away some thoughts about how to challenge their team members or themselves about the future of their business. This will be in the form of some questions to ask themselves.
I will also provide a frame work, that they could apply to challenge the status quo.

I own an SME, I’m a non-exec director of another as well as having lots of experience in larger organisations.
